REVELATION OF MYSELF ……… the art of Li Baolin

As a versatile painter from China, Baolin started his earlier paintings in Portraits before expanding towards works of Landscapes since 1980’s, and achieved great success in his work. From the artists' view, his works on landscape are “natural” in every aspects.

Amongst the standards of Chinese Arts, it is not measured merely by the work of an artist, but also by the virtue of his principles as a whole and such values are clearly reflected in his works.

The work of Baoling, whether Portrait or Landscape, clearly defines a natural and realistic forms of his subjects. Much like the real life impression of Baoling when one one interacts with displaying a strong sense of realism. Being a warm and modest person, he not only display a positive attitude as such, but he also carries

a strong sense of duty in public, and charitable towards society.A realistic, intelligent and inspirational artist, such traits are clearly inherited from his previous mentor, Li Keiran, who thrived on the principle of hardwork.

In the mid 80's, the values of Chinese arts were greatly undermined. Somehow, in the mindset of Baolin, he believes that Chinese art will prevail and gain international recognition. It is then that Baoling strived and experiment more on the illustration of "Chinese Ink" while Li Keiran stressed on the achievement of his Landscape works. On hindsight, Baoling struggles to discover ways to unite his work and establish a unique identity of his own.

In my opinion, Baoling's works are uniquely passionate. The previous 10 years of his works are reflection of his labor of hard work, and also many of his travels through unchartered and remote regions of China like, Xinjiang, which helps gain deep artistic inspiration in the course.

Quoting on a piece of his work done on large Chinese rice paper, the details of his work clearly defines the distinction of his passion, skills and knowledge.

The diversity undertaken by Baoling combines both East and West form and such form are clearly reflected in his works of arts retained by the master to create a great Chinese master piece.

Traditional Chinese painting like Han images or North-West cave murals found in ShanXi greatly contributed to the master's landscape works. The distinction of his works reflects a rather modern concept without compromising on the deep relation to the tradition and history of his country, China, and the values of his painting
